Mockingbird

The Fostering Network’s Mockingbird programme is all about creating a strong, supportive community and warm, familiar space for both carers and the children they look after.

Mockingbird groups are called 'constellations', and we have three of them in Buckinghamshire – North, South, and Central (with the Central constellation launching soon).

Community support - sons and daughters

Sons and daughters group

If you have children of your own, we appreciate how much of an important part they will play in welcoming a foster child into your home and want to support them too.

Our sons and daughters group is a wonderful way for your kids to meet, bond, and enjoy fun activities during the school holidays with other children who share similar experiences

Buddy system

You’ll be paired with a seasoned foster carer who will be your buddy throughout your journey.

They’ll be there to answer your questions, offer guidance, or simply chat whenever you need. It’s our way of ensuring you always have a friend to turn to.

Support groups

Support networks and community are key to success in fostering. We offer regular support groups for our foster carers in Aylesbury, North Bucks and South Bucks to meet other carers and share experiences.

The 5 support groups run daytime and evening, face-to-face and online, and offer specialised groups. Our foster carers find these to be very helpful as can meet other carers in their local area.

Willow award

Annual awards

Every year, we come together for a special Foster Carer Awards ceremony to honour and celebrate our wonderful foster carers. It’s our heartfelt way of saying thank you for their dedication and the incredible care they provide for our children.

We also take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the long-term commitment of those carers who have been with us for many years, showing unwavering support and love.

Our boys have taken to fostering really well, but we are very aware that they are essentially having to share their parents with another child. It is great that they have this group to go to, to make them feel special and appreciated.”
